Oxygen-barrier performance in a mayonnaise container made from Soarnol
Mayonnaise may taste a little better these days thanks to Soarnol.
Mayonnaise has a tendency to oxidize, thereby changing the flavor. Now Soarnol has come to the rescue, blocking oxygen that causes flavors to deteriorate. Soarnol is NIPPON GOHSEI's trade name for Ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH), widely used in engineering plastics for its extreme hardness. EVOH's outstanding gas-barrier properties were recognized about 30 years ago, and its use spread rapidly as a packaging material for a wide variety of foods. It is also highly valued for its environmental performance, since it is composed of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen atoms. These properties have helped demand grow not only in Japan but throughout the world, especially in Europe and the US. We have developed Soarnol, a higher-performing gas barrier EVOH, in response to rising consumer concerns about maintaining freshness. Our full expertise goes into collaborating with our customers to respond to the needs of society.
